Compressing Lotus Notes Data

[ Edited ]

Hello.

I have a problem with Lotus Notes data compression on my WCX1800 (CO) and WXC250 (RO) devices. As you can see from the attached pictures, Lotus Notes traffic makes 10 % from all volume on CO and 6.6% on RO. But compression rate is 0%. What could be the reason for that issue?

Re: Compressing Lotus Notes Data

Does anybody know the answer for this question? Or any reason why LotusNotes traffic compression doesn't work?

Any suggestion will be highly appreciated!

Re: Compressing Lotus Notes Data

It has been a couple of years since I worked on a Lotus Notes project with WXC. I seem to recall that Lotus offers the option of encypting the data. Have you checked into that? Encyrption of course will kill compression.

Our customer has confirmed that they had encryption enabled on Lotus Notes. So, obviously, that was the reason.

Thank you very much for your answer! With pleasure will rate it as the solution for Lotus Notes compression problem.

Re: Compressing Lotus Notes Data

Since about domino 6.5.2 quite a lot of the notes environment uses compression and encryption by default. Please not there are multiple levels of compression, for example, NSF (i.e. database), attachment only etc.

For any optimizer to provide improvement to data flowing over a wan data needs 'generally' to be in the clear and not pre-compressed, please work withy your customer to get compression and encryption disabled for maximum benefit.
