  • 1.  AN_BYPASS error messages on aggregated EX interface

    Posted 02-12-2013 23:01

    Hi all,

I am displaying a lot of log messages on a EX-4200 that has a not working member interface of a lacp group:

    Feb 12 16:30:02 CRAJUSD1 chassism[1111]: AN_BYPASS Activated for port ge-0/0/12
    Feb 12 16:30:02 CRAJUSD1 chassism[1111]: AN_BYPASS : Port ge-0/0/12 Saved time -821630276
    Feb 12 16:30:03 CRAJUSD1 chassism[1111]: AN_BYPASS : Port ge-0/0/12 Current -821629207 Saved time -821630276

... it seems a physical issue with the interface, because the messages stop if you disable the member affected, but i have not see any docs related to these messages... maybe anyone can help and confirm what these messages exactly mean?

    TIA & Best Regards.

The Software Auto Negotiation Bypass algorithm was introduced from 10.4 onwards. That's why you are seeing the logs.

These messages are harmless and do not indicate any issue with transceiver or the port

Below are the conditions when these messages should get generated

    a) When we have a link partner which has auto negotiated disabled.

    b) Also When user disconnects the cable and connects it back.

    c) Also when the interface is disabled/enabled via cli etc.

when a link is not connected on them, these logs might be output.

Also the occurrence of log is just a notification and will not affect actual traffic. Hence they have left the log unchanged.

seems like if you hardcode the port and bounce it, it will come back up... worked for me
