I would like to create a default config file to apply to new switches and was wondering if I can use the same file for the ex2200, ex3200, and ex4200? Will the config file work for both 24-port and 48-port?

Yes, but be careful about the features supported and the interface numbering.  The EX4200 has features that aren't on the EX2200 and a 48-port config will not map to a 24-port switch.  Also be careful if you're going from EX3200 to a EX4200-VC, as the interface names change.

Generally speaking you can do this.

The only place where you might run into trouble would be if you were using some of the more esoteric features on an EX3200/4200 that the EX2200 cannot do.

For example, suppose that you had some OSPF setup on your EX3200/4200 switches that required an advanced license on the EX2200.

Otherwise you should be able to build a base configuration for a 24-port 2200/3200/4200 and a base configuration for a 48-port 2200/3200/4200 as JUNOS is JUNOS.
