  • 1.  Configure Multicast on a EX-3200 series switch - with 4 VLANs

    Hi Guys,

Can anyone help me how can I configure the multicast feature of the EX-series with 4 different VLANs configured. Can I used VLC media player to test if multicasting is succesfully configured? For example if though the server (Video) is located on VLAN 1 other hosts located in different VLANs can still watch the video.

    Hello,

as far as the streaming with vlc is concerned, this will probably answer your questions. I personally use RTP and the multicast address of 239.255.100.100 and it works perfectly.

If you want the multicast traffic to cross vlans, you will need to configure a multicast routing protocol. The EX switches support PIM-SM.
The detailed instructions on how to configure this and other features (e.g. IGMP snooping) can be found in the 'Multicast Protocols Configuration Guide

If you would like more information and examples on this, then I would highly recommend the chapter on multicast in the JUNOS Enterprise Routing book.

Thanks buddy, you have given me a new cool way to configure my VLC. It is different from what I practice. I can now play video streaming with my VLC client.
