  • 1.  Connecting Cisco4900M with VC 4300 EX no luck

    Posted 02-02-2017 07:52

    Experts,

I am trying to connect using active / passive link aggregation Juniper VC 4300 with Cisco 4900M using SFP module on Cisco - Cisco CVR-X2-SFP10G= X2 TO SFP+ADAPTOR MODULE with Juniper SFP+ copper direct cables and no luck. Both theoritically should be compatybile. The logs from Cisco shows:

    000015: *Feb  2 08:32:43.711: Port Te1/5: OneX Converter inserted: vendor: CISCO-FOXCONN, p/n: U58H136.01, s/n: FOC17055YJ0
    000016: *Feb  2 08:32:43.711: Port Te1/6: OneX Converter inserted: vendor: CISCO-FOXCONN, p/n: U58H136.01, s/n: FOC17055YB3
    000017: *Feb  2 08:32:43.711: Port Te1/7: OneX Converter inserted: vendor: CISCO-FOXCONN, p/n: U58H136.01, s/n: FOC17043LQM
    000018: *Feb  2 08:32:43.711: Port Te1/8: OneX Converter inserted: vendor: CISCO-FOXCONN, p/n: U58H136.01, s/n: FOC17055Y72
    000019: *Feb  2 08:32:44.011: %C4K_GLMMAN-3-NONSFPPLUSINONEXCONVERTERHOLE: Non-SFP+ inserted in port Te1/5 ( 4 ), which is for 10G SFP+ OneX Converter
    000020: *Feb  2 08:32:44.011: %C4K_GLMMAN-3-NONSFPPLUSINONEXCONVERTERHOLE: Non-SFP+ inserted in port Te1/6 ( 5 ), which is for 10G SFP+ OneX Converter

The lines  Non-SFP+ inserted in port Te1/5 ( 4 ), which is for 10G SFP+ OneX Converter tels that Juniper SFP+ direct attach cable is Non-SFP+ ???????  Is this would be compatybility issue or proper configuration?

    Thank You

The configuration is fallowing but I believe its fine:

I have ether channel 2 configured on Cisco 4900: interface Port-channel2
    switchport
    switchport trunk native vlan 5
    switchport mode trunk
    load-interval 30
    ip dhcp snooping trust

    interface TenGigabitEthernet1/5
    description 10Gb link
    switchport trunk native vlan 5
    switchport mode trunk
    channel-group 2 mode active
    ip dhcp snooping trust

    interface TenGigabitEthernet1/6
    description 10Gb link_2
    switchport trunk native vlan 5
    switchport mode trunk
    channel-group 2 mode active
    ip dhcp snooping trust

    #sh interfaces port-channel 2
Port-channel2 is down, line protocol is down (notconnect)

have you enabled "service unsupported-transceiver" on your 4900M ? If not you will need this command to allow 3rd party optics.

The command is hidden so you need to type it in full.

Please revert with if this solves your issue.

tried that and also other commands:  no errdisable detect cause gbic-invalid

no luck - still both ports down

Juniper uses http://www.juniper.net/documentation/en_US/release-independent/junos/topics/reference/general/cable-ex-series-sfp-plus-direct-attach.html  these cables and two of them are plugged to 4900 to these modules:

    https://www.amazon.com/Cisco-CVR-X2-SFP10G-SFP-ADAPTOR-MODULE/dp/B0030VM08Q

So theoretically they should both work.

    Hi Logtech,

bollocks. Another question: distance of the SFP+ cable? I see that 7 meter cables are supported by EX3400 but the OneX only supports up to 5 meters.

If the cable is only 5 meters, please test the cable between two ports in the EX4300 VC to ensure cable is actually operating as expected.

If you are still having issue, may I suggest you look into buying 3rd party cable where one end is coded for Cisco and the other for Juniper. I think that eg. Prolabs can help you with this kind of cable.

I dont think its cable since its 2 ft cable - same cable is used for connecting all 4300 in virtual chasis, I will play a bit of with configuration over this weekend, I assume its Cisco OneX module causes problems. I will post my findings.

    Thank You

i am giving up on the Mallenox MC3309130-001 copper cables. I used on both sides Cisco  SFP-10GB-sR and single mode fiber - works like charm. Even using juniper EX-SFP-10GE-LRM-OEM on both sides and single mode fiber would not work. I dont think that Mallenox copper is compatybile in this scenario.

Simply Cisco  SFP-10GB-sR on Juniper 4300 and 4900M sides with single mode fiber works the best. Thank You again for help.
