  • 1.  Does EX8200 support virtual chassis or SMLT type configuration

    Hi,

I wanted to know the following and searching juniper site for info did not yield any result.

    1. Does Juniper EX8200 support virtual chassis?

    2. Can i dual home an edge switch to two EX8200 core switches (without using STP) using something similar to SMLT on found on nortel?

    3. If i am teaming nics on server to two EX8200 core switch, is there any special configuration required on the core.

    4. Does Juniper EX8200 support Multi Chassis LAG?

    Regards,
    Haze

    My answers above AFAIK

    1. Does Juniper EX8200 support virtual chassis?

    - No, this is planned and we are all waiting for this

    2. Can i dual home an edge switch to two EX8200 core switches (without using STP) using something similar to SMLT on found on nortel?

    - No, the answer from juniper is to use RTG (Redundant trunk group) instead (port backup or link backup on others vendors, Flexlink on C..)

    3. If i am teaming nics on server to two EX8200 core switch, is there any special configuration required on the core.

    - You can't make an aggregation (ie LACP) on two different Chassis

    4. Does Juniper EX8200 support Multi Chassis LAG?

    No.

Yes we are all waiting for this

The answer today on Juniper switches is 4200 boxes but not the chassis

    Hope this will help you

I don't think so (nothing as Split MLT)

RTG (Redundant trunk group) can only support L2 switching port, how to backup a L3 port( in case i dont want to use

    any dynamic routing protocols)?

You can use static routes with different metrics

That's the way to do what you want at Layer 3 without routing protocol

    Hi,

Just to update this topic....looks like juniper is now support virtual chassis on EX8200 but it requires an additional appliance - the XRE200 Routing Engine.

So now that Juniper supports VCP between two 8200 switches. Is it possible to create an LACP or static LAG from an edge swtich to the two chassis participating in VCP? I am assuming that answer is yes but looking for a confirmation.

    Thanks

    hi computingbee,

yes with EX8200-VC you can create static or LACP-based LAGs from an edge switch where 1 or more links terminate on each of the two phyical chassis -- the same behavior as you can on the other EX Virtual Chassis.  The EX8200-VC pretty much provides the same functionality as the Nortel / Avaya SMLT technology, with in my opinion, some benefits --

    1)  one config file to manage, not two

    2)  no need for proprietary loop prevention technologies (ie SLPP) because the entire EX8200-VC is seen and acts as one switch, so it can run RSTP / MSTP on its LAG ports, unlike the Nortel / Avaya SMLT solution.

    hi,
which static bonding mode will you choose for Linux or OpenSolaris with 8200VC?
