  • 1.  EX4200 complaining PEM1 and PEM0 are not powered?

I constantly have these two alarms -

    > show chassis alarms
    2 alarms currently active
    Alarm time               Class  Description
2016-12-05 17:38:50 CST  Major  FPC 0 PEM 1 is not powered
2016-12-05 17:38:50 CST  Major  FPC 0 PEM 0 is not powered

I replaced power supply 1 with a new power supply

    Power Supply 0   REV 03   740-020957   AT0508420508      PS 320W AC
    Power Supply 1   REV 05   740-020957   AT0514103087      PS 320W AC

I am still getting the errors. (Also my date is wrong apparently). What should I do?

    show system uptime
    fpc0:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Current time: 2016-12-06 17:23:54 CST

    Hi,

Please check for the chasisd logs if you see any abnormality.

    Hello,

Can you give output of the command 'show chassis environment'?

This could be an issue with power cord, power panel or power supply unit.

    Regards,

    Rushi

The other potential cause of this is thermal shutdown of the power supply.  Check the temperature history of the device.  If it gets too hot the PEM shuts down then turns back on when the temp recovers.

Try upgrading the firmware if that option is available
    lab@exB-2> show chassis firmware
    Part Type Version
    FPC 0 uboot U-Boot 1.1.6 (Jul 5 2012 - 11:58:22) 1.0.0
    loader FreeBSD/PowerPC U-Boot bootstrap loader 2.4

I can upggrade the firmware on SRX, but could not find a command to do the same on the EX. Someone could chime here?

This can be run on the SRX

    >request system firmware upgrade re bios
    reboot then,

    >request system firmware upgrade re bios backup

This may seem a foolish thought, but if both power-supplies were not powered at the same time, wouldn't the switch be off?

On the EX series, the firmware is a distinct download.  It is installed via the typical "request system software add" command used to install JunOS.  The version I show as the most current (without the issue described in the KB at https://kb.juniper.net/InfoCenter/index?page=content&id=TSB16227&smlogin=true&actp=search )for the EX4200 is 1.1.6 dated July 5, 2012:

    > show chassis firmware
    Part Type Version
    FPC 0 uboot U-Boot 1.1.6 (Jul 5 2012 - 11:58:22) 1.0.0
    loader FreeBSD/PowerPC U-Boot bootstrap loader 2.4
    FPC 1 uboot U-Boot 1.1.6 (Jul 5 2012 - 11:58:22) 1.0.0
    loader FreeBSD/PowerPC U-Boot bootstrap loader 2.4
    FPC 2 uboot U-Boot 1.1.6 (Jul 5 2012 - 11:58:22) 1.0.0
    loader FreeBSD/PowerPC U-Boot bootstrap loader 2.4
