Hi,
We have an EX4500 in a VC. When i do show interface terese, heaps of the interfaces dont show up at all.
is this becauses there is nothing connected to them? Why don't they show up as 'up down' like some of the others... See below output;
show interfaces terse Interface Admin Link Proto Local Remote xe-0/0/1 up up xe-0/0/1.0 up up eth-switch xe-0/0/2 up up xe-0/0/2.0 up up eth-switch xe-0/0/3 up up xe-0/0/3.0 up up eth-switch xe-0/0/12 up up xe-0/0/12.0 up up eth-switch xe-0/0/14 up up xe-0/0/14.0 up up eth-switch xe-0/0/28 up down xe-0/0/28.0 up down eth-switch xe-0/0/30 up up xe-0/0/30.0 up up eth-switch xe-0/0/39 up up xe-0/0/39.0 up up aenet --> ae0.0 xe-1/0/1 up down xe-1/0/1.0 up down eth-switch xe-1/0/2 up up xe-1/0/2.0 up up eth-switch xe-1/0/3 up up xe-1/0/3.0 up up eth-switch xe-1/0/12 up up xe-1/0/12.0 up up eth-switch xe-1/0/14 up up xe-1/0/14.0 up up eth-switch xe-1/0/24 up up xe-1/0/24.0 up up eth-switch xe-1/0/28 up down xe-1/0/28.0 up down eth-switch xe-1/0/30 up up xe-1/0/30.0 up up eth-switch xe-1/0/39 up up xe-1/0/39.0 up up aenet --> ae0.0 vcp-0 up up
That is the full output....

Hi,
On ex4200 it shows only interfaces with loaded sfp modules. I think ex4500 has the same behavior

Do you have configuration statements for all of the interfaces? I believe that the interfaces won't show up unless they're configured.

yes some of them are configugured with the usunetal 'unit 0 familty ethernet switching blah blah'

they will only appear if an optic is physically installed.
