  • 1.  Fan Spinning at Full Speed

    Posted 01-01-2013 20:04

    Hello,

Some of my ex4200's have a fan spinning at full speed message. Its happing on different switches and not all fans on the switches. Is this a bad thing?

Could it be a false positive created by the version i'm running?....11.4R2.14.

The switches are in controlled enviromnets ie: airconditioning so the racks aren't experiencing high temperates.

    Thanks for your help.

Usually fan speed should be normal. high speed means temp problem. Try to put your hand on the switch it self and check it is normal or not maybe it is spacing problem prevent air inside the rack

I have the same problem, but we've had changes in our physical environment. The servers, switches, and our desks were originally in one room with a Mr. Slim A/C on the desk side of the room and the stack of EX4200s and EX4500s usually kept quiet, but would rev up every now and then on warmer days. Then we virtualized; added a large SAN and blade servers, divided the room in half with a wall, and added a large Liebert A/C that maintains 70*F in the room with excellent circulation. But, due to lack of planning , we had to orient the SAN and blades so they were blowing hot air in to the switches, and logically the fans started running at full speed.

Now we've rearranged everything and there is no hot air blowing in the switches, but fan #1 in each of the 4200s (units 0-3) continues to run at full speed. I don't get it....

    We're running 12.3R9-S1

It looks like some of those temperatures are hitting or near the full-speed threshold. This appears to be 60C on EX4200's - though I only have those running on 12.1+ code it may be different on your version. show chassis temperature-thresholds should be able to tell you.

    Hi,

Where do you see those messages of fan speed ?

Can you post the output of the "show log messages" ?
