  • 1.  Is EX4500 wire-speed without VC module?

    Hi Guys!

    Regarding this scheme:

Does this mean, that EX4500 reaches line rate only with VC module installed? It seems strange, that two PFE are interconnected with one 120Gbe channel, and the other interconnect channel goes througt VC module. I checked Marvell's ASIC specification, which ex4500 is probably based on

    http://www.marvell.com/switching/assets/prestera_cx_8248_8234_pb.pdf

and it says 480Gbe line-rate performance.

So the question is: Is EX4500 wire-speed without VC module?

    Hi

    Good question...

"EX4500 switches ship with either the intraconnect module or the Virtual Chassis module preinstalled in the switch. Both modules are installed horizontally on the rear of an EX4500 switch chassis. However, only one of the modules can be installed in the switch chassis at a given time. Both modules are offline field-replaceable units (FRUs).

The intraconnect module helps the switch achieve line rate on all its ports."

So if you did not purchase a VC module, you should be having a intraconnect module inserted that gives you line rate.

    Yes, you are right!

    From the config tool:

"The EX4500 comes standard with Chassis, One Fan Tray, One AC power supply, One power cord, One Interconnect Module, and cover panels."
