    Hi All,

I've searched through the Juniper site but couldn't find a comparable Juniper core switch with Cisco 6503-E. My customer wants a Juniper core switch that can match a Cisco 6503-E. He is ready to buy but i cant get one that can do the exact of what the Cisco 6503-E switch.

    Thanks in advance.

You might want to look at the MX series Specifically the 240

    http://www.juniper.net/us/en/products-services/routing/mx-series/mx240/

You won't find an exact match for everything (that would be copying) - but should be pretty close. If there are more specific requirements, post them here and I'm sure we'll find something.

    Cheers,

The MX series is a great fit if MPLS is a requirement. If MPLS is not needed and price is more a deciding factor, then a "mini-core" made up of EX4200 and/or EX4500 may just fit the bill.

Giving you some options will be easier when you lay out the requirements your customer has, functionality-wise.

    Hi All,

    Thanks for your reply.

Basically the customer i am comparing Cisco 6503E which will be populated with the below modules.

    Catalyst 6500 Enhanced 3-slot chassis,4RU,no PS,no Fan Tray

Cat6500 8 port 10 Gigabit Ethernet module (req. DFC and X2)

Catalyst 6500 Dist Fwd Card for WS-X67xx modules

    6K 8 port 10 Gigabit Ethernet module with DFC3C (req. X2)

    Catalyst 6500/Cisco 7600 Supervisor 720 Fabric MSFC3 PFC3B

Need a Juniper core switch and modules that can match the above Cisco

A basic core switch which is modular to connect L2switches but modular.I know EX4200 and EX4500 are not modular and have so many interfaces. So that may not fit. And the modulart switches Juniper has are to big for the requirements.

    My Question:

    1. Can MX240 do this knowing that it is a router?

    2. if yes, what modules will be required to populate the MX that will enable it perform core switching functions rather than a routing function. Because there is a core router in place already.

    Thanks guys.

You'll be paying a lot, for little on the 6500-E this day and age.

If you are just looking for Ethernet and IP out of a core switch, the EX4500 is a good bet for the price, if your needs are small.

if you are really looking for similar modular switch than probably there is no one. becasue we have all the modular switch with at least the 8 slots.
i would say if you are looking for something similar in functionality than you can have 2 or 3 EX4500 switch in virtual chassis / STACK config. which will give you the 10 GE interfaces and chassis level redundancy similar to your 6503.
you can have a look at the EX4500 specification.
