  • 1.  LACP between VC and HP APA Unix

Does anyone have a working config for setting up LACP between a EX4200 VC and a HP APA (Auto-Port Aggregation) on a HP 9000 Unix server?  This is the config I tried but was unsuccessful.

    set interfaces ae3 aggregated-ether-options link-speed 100m
set interfaces ae3 unit 0 family ethernet-switching vlan members default
set interfaces ae3 aggregated-ether-options lacp active
    set interfaces ge-0/0/28 ether-options speed 100m
    set interfaces ge-0/0/28 ether-options 802.3ad ae3
    set interfaces ge-0/0/29 ether-options speed 100m
    set interfaces ge-0/0/29 ether-options 802.3ad ae3
    set interfaces ge-1/0/28 ether-options speed 100m
    set interfaces ge-1/0/28 ether-options 802.3ad ae3
    set interfaces ge-1/0/29 ether-options speed 100m
    set interfaces ge-1/0/29 ether-options 802.3ad ae3

The links come up but I cannot pass traffic regardless if I use active or passive.  I still need to do some more troubleshooting and I just found the commands below to help

    show lacp interfaces ae3

    monitor traffic interface ge-0/0/x detail

Any advice would help for troubleshooting or a working config would be great.  Thanks

    Hi rfc86,

If I were you, here's what I'd do.

    1. If I suspect the transmission and/or cabling might be a problem, configure each interface as point-to-point with dummy IP addresses to eliminate transmission/cabling problems.

    2. do a show interfaces ae3 extensive and check the status of member links while LACP is active.

    3. remove LACP configuration completely from both ends and see if I can pass traffic over the aggregate interface. (e.g. ping the remote IP in HP with source of ae3 in EX).

    4. Check both software release notes, PR/defect databases for a known issue with either LACP or interoperability.

We had another window to test the AE and it turns out the my config was fine and is working

    set interfaces ae3 aggregated-ether-options link-speed 100m
set interfaces ae3 aggregated-ether-options lacp active
set interfaces ae3 unit 0 family ethernet-switching vlan members default
    set interfaces ge-0/0/28 ether-options 802.3ad ae3
    set interfaces ge-0/0/28 ether-options speed 100m
    set interfaces ge-0/0/29 ether-options 802.3ad ae3
    set interfaces ge-0/0/29 ether-options speed 100m
    set interfaces ge-1/0/28 ether-options 802.3ad ae3
    set interfaces ge-1/0/28 ether-options speed 100m
    set interfaces ge-1/0/29 ether-options 802.3ad ae3
    set interfaces ge-1/0/29 ether-options speed 100m

The trick was the Unix administrator and I were not in sync.  In order for this to work, the Unix admin had to stop the networking services for the HP APA.  Next, I plugged in all the cables to the VC and set the config above.  When I was finished the Unix admin started the services and it came up working.

In the previous attempt, I was testing and changing configs on my own and he was stopping and starting services on his own.  Below is the output from the troubleshoot commands I found from the support site.  Everything is good.
