MX480 VPLS with MSTP

Dears ,

we are tying to implement MSTP ongoing with VPLS as below config. snapshot :

Do we need to change the encapsulation type on the interface to : ethernet-vpls to get this enabled , also will this affect the VLAN tagging .

-------------------------------------------------------Q---------------------------------------------------

>>> Below the config. we tried to upload on the MX480 .

routing-instances {
    xyz{
        protocols {
   mstp {
    bridge-priority 32728;
    configuration-name xyz;
    revision-level 1;
    interface ae0.1435 {
     bpdu-timeout-action alarm ;
     mode p2p;
    }
    interface ae1.1435 {
     bpdu-timeout-action alarm ;
     mode p2p;
    }
    msti 1 {
     bridge-priority 32728;
     vlan [ 1024 1031 1033 1035 1038 1042 1046 1048 1049 1050 1073 1079 1086 1087 1088 1089 1096 1098 1209  ];
     interface ae0.1435 {
      bpdu-timeout-action alarm ;
      mode p2p;
     }
     interface ae1.1435 {
      bpdu-timeout-action alarm ;
      mode p2p;
     }
    }
...................

    ##
    ## Warning: STP protocols allowed only in layer2-control or virtual-switch instance

Re: MX480 VPLS with MSTP

Hi,

I don't believe encapsulation is the key here.

You should either configure an instance-type virtual-switch (which allows you for VPLS)  and put MSTP inside or keep using instance-type vpls but additionally create a separated instance-type layer2-control and put all the MSTP stuff into such instance (remove it from vpls).

Quick && dirty example:

[edit routing-instances]

$NAME$ {
     instance-type layer2-control;
     protocols {
         mstp {
            configuration-name $NAME$;
            ## optional stuff like bridge-priority etc ##
            msti $NUM$ {
                 vlan $VID$; ## as in vpls ##
               }
       }
   }
}

Good luck,
