  • 1.  Naming VLANs on EX4200

Hi. Can I use VLAN names that begin with a number on EX4200 in a later JUNOS release? Right now with JUNOS 9.2R3.5 I get the following error (sic):

Must be a string of lenth atleast 2 beginning with a letterand consisting of letters, numbers, dashes, and underscores

In another data center with a Cisco 6500, our naming convention requires some VLAN names beginning with numbers. It's not a huge issue, but I'd like to use the same naming convention in the new data center if possible. Thanks in advance.

I just tried it on a 10.0R4.7 switch, and this is what I got:

    error: syntax error: test
vlan-name: '1-vlan-1': Must be a string of length at least 2 beginning with a letter and consisting of letters, numbers, periods, dashes, and underscores.

I also checked the release notes, and I do not see evidence of a fix for this in there.

    Hi,

your JUNOS version is really old and rather bad.

I recommended you upgrade to version 10.

More specific JUNOS 10.0R4.7 as recommended here:

    https://www.juniper.net/customers/csc/software/junos_software_versions.jsp

Newer version could be considered if you really need the new features introduced.

I see much happier customers with versin 10 than on 9.4 or 9.5 🙂

    cheers

I guess that is still working the same way.

It is probably working as designed.

Start your names with a etter then perhaps ? 🙂
