  • 1.  Newbie Question about tracing packets on EX3200

    Posted 07-24-2011 16:24

    Hello,

Is there something similar on an EX3200 to the SRX's:

                     security flow traceoption packet-filter <name> source-prefix...

that I can use to follow packets?

I am pretty new to Junos/networking, and I have found this to be an invaluable tool on the SRX for figuring out what is going on.

    Thanks.

Unfortunately, EX Series devices are packet devices so they don't track flows statefully the way the SRX does.  The best way to capture information on specific packets (assuming they are transit packets) is to enable a firewall filter with a match on a particular set of constraints (IP Source, IP Dest, Proto, Port, etc.) and then use the 'then log' option.  With this, you can gather more detailed information about matching flows by using the command 'show firewall log' and 'show firewall log detail'.

    HTHs.
