I have virtual-chassis with 8 members - some time ago member 9 (FPC 😎 was removed and virtual-chassis reconfigured.

But chassis still have red alarm about removed device:

show chassis alarms 
1 alarms currently active
Alarm time               Class  Description
2013-08-02 09:17:22 EEST Major  FPC 8 PEM 1 is not powered

How can I solve this problem?

It is about an issue in Power Entry Module (PEM) in line card 8. Try to replace its power supply and view the alarm status again. Please view J-Net post http://forums.juniper.net/t5/Ethernet-Switching/Power-Entry-Module/td-p/72494

as I already mentioned, in virtual-chassis are not member 8, this member was removed un vc reconfigured. At this mement in vc are members 0 - 7 but alarm is about absent device 8.
I do not have plans to put this device back, but I woud like to clear this alarm.

How did you reconfigure the virtual chassis, simply deleting configuration when virtual chassis created does not remove virtual chassis. It all depends on configuration method you adopted, pre provisioned or dynamic .

For dynamic method use following method.

request system halt member x

request virtual-chassis recycle member-id x

I think it will remove all alarms for faulty line card and if pre provisioned method use following technique

request system halt member x

configure

delete virtual-chassis pre-provisioned member x

when I removed member 8 I did:

request system halt member 8
configure
delete virtual-chassis member 8
commit and-quit

now I tried:

request virtual-chassis recycle member-id 8    
error: Command not supported in preprovisioned mode (virtual-chassis-control)

Alarm is still active.

Possible completions:
  <[Enter]>            Execute this command
  |                    Pipe through a command
{master:1}[edit]

I creaded Juniper support case and answer was:

--In EX there is no command to take off the alarm only option is to "switch over the mastership" or "reboot the RE"
