  • 1.  Resolving Host 1/0 Boot from backup root error on VC

    Posted 05-26-2013 01:25

    Hi All,

I bumped into the following errors in my EX4200 VC setup:

    Alarm time               Class  Description
2011-11-19 16:53:56 MYT  Minor  Host 1 Boot from backup root
2011-11-19 16:53:56 MYT  Minor  Host 0 Boot from backup root

From the KB I found, there is steps mentioned on how to resovle above:

    http://kb.juniper.net/InfoCenter/index?page=content&id=KB23180&pmv=print

However the KB only mentioned on 1 single switch. If  I have a VC as you can see from the alarms, do I issue a

request system all-members snapshot media internal slice alternate
request system reboot all-members slice alternate media internal
Do I run this on the Master?

    Thanks.

The commands may be correct but I don't think you would want to use the reboot all members that broadly.

request system reboot all-members slice alternate media internal

This command will make ALL members of the virtual chassis boot to the alternat media.

But you want ONLY those that are currently booted to the backup partition to perform this function.

I think you want to check the actual patition status of each member and do either a normal reboot or the alternate media reboot accordingly.

    Hi,

Example of the alarms above, Host 0 & Host 1; that is referring to the Master and 1 Member? Am I right?

So for that case, if the VC is 2 switches; then it should be OK for me to run the all-members command to reboot all (both) the switches with alternate media?

    Thanks.

That would be correct, if there are only two members then in this case both are reporting the boot from alternate partition and the all members command would be fine.
