  • 1.  Speed Options for EX-SFP-1GE-T in EX4550-32F

    Hi Guys,

Is it possible to operate the EX-SFP-1GE-T in 10M or 100M mode on the EX4550-32F (Junos 12.3) or is 1G the only supported speed value?

    Thanks in andvance,

    Benjamin

    Hello,

    Can you try following commands?

    delete interface ge-fpc/pic/port auto-negotiation
    set interfaces ge-fpc/pic/port speed 10m or 100m
    commit

    I think it should work.

    Regards,

    Rushi

    Hi Rushi,

    Thanks for your comment.

Basically, I am able to commit these commands, even without a transceiver plugged into the corresponding port. So that doesn't mean that the SFP will actually operate in 10/100M mode.

My problem is, that I do not have this type of transceiver to just test the functionality. The predecessor of EX4550, the EX4500 definitely had the restriction, that EX-SFP-1GE-T transceivers could just be operated in 1G mode. I want to make sure if this restriction also applies to EX4550.

    Regards, Benjamin

Yes you are correct that the EX4500 ONLY operate at either 1G or 10G, so therefore a 10/100/1000Base-T SFP (copper SFP) would ONLY operate at 1G with these platforms.

The same is NOT true for the EX4550.  This newer platform supports tri-speed operation when a 10/100/1000 Copper SFP is used.

You can perform a Google search on the topic to find various info.  Below is one from Forums discussion of a while ago (early 2013):

Ok, thanks for your input. Did you also test this functionality?

Otherwise I have to trust the documentation.

I have not tested this, but others have.  I am 99.9% positive this works as advertised.
