Hi All, Noticed that Juniper has launched new quad-core RE (RE-S-1800x4) for MX series routers. They have included 2x SSD slots that can hold logs files, image etc. But, it does include harddisk. They have excluded the hard-disk from boot sequence.
My question are,
1. If a hard-disk failure happens, will it affect the operations of RE (as the legacy RE)?
2. Is the hard-disk still the primary location for log files, traceoption outputs etc.?
Thanks
Shiv

Hi,
afaik (and the docs at http://www.juniper.net/techpubs/en_US/junos12.1/to
show chassis hardware detail
Hardware inventory:
Item ... Description
Chassis ... MX960
Routing Engine 0 ... RE-S-1800x4
ad0 3896 MB ... Compact Flash
ad1 30533 MB ... Disk 1
...
So the SSD is just a replacement for the "usual" HD. Everything else should work as before. So to your questions:
1. That depends on the still open PRs in the release you're running. All causing this should meanwhile be fixed.
2. Yes.
(in the sense that HD = SSD in this case)
Best Regards
