Dhcp Differences

Hello

Anyone can explain the difference between the dhcp at the "edit system services" level and the dhcp at the "edit access" level?

Thank You

Re: Dhcp Differences

under "system services dhcp-local-server" you are able to configure the DHCP-Local-Server that is running on the device.

This is used for DHCP subscriber access and is a "standalone" DHCP server running on JUNOS.

This DHCP server can contact RADIUS to get parameters for the subscriber session.

Here a MX will do the complete DHCP session handling.

bwg@donau# show system services dhcp-local-server
pool-match-order {
    external-authority;
}
authentication {
    password Scrat;
    username-include {
        delimiter /;
        domain-name JUN-t-home.de;
        user-prefix DT_DHCP;
        inactive: mac-address;
        inactive: option-82 circuit-id remote-id;
    }
}
group Cvlan_Generic {
    dynamic-profile Dp_Scrat;
    interface ge-4/2/2.10;
    interface ge-4/2/3.10;
}

At this level you configure from which interfaces the DHCP request are handled be the Local DHCP server and you can define based on which information the DHCP session is authenticated towards RADIUS.

At "access address-assignment" you can configure the address-pool which is used by the DHCP Local Server, and which additional options (DHCP "attributes") the MX can send during the DHCP negotiation.

bwg@donau# show access address-assignment
pool ScratPool {
    family inet {
        network 10.1.1.0/30;
        range AddresslessAddressPoolforServerlessServer {
            low 10.1.1.1;
            high 10.1.1.1;
        }
        dhcp-attributes {
            maximum-lease-time 300;
            domain-name t-home-speed.de;
            name-server {
                217.27.27.32;
                217.27.27.33;
            }
            router {
                11.99.0.86;
            }
            inactive: option 121 string "8.7.7.0/24 7.7.7.7";
            inactive: option 120 ip-address 2.2.2.2;
            option 1 ip-address 255.255.255.255;
        }
    }
}

Re: Dhcp Differences

if you are using the combination dhcp-radius as stated in the previous formu entry.

Will JUNOS decode the circuit ID used in option 82 correctly?

Re: Dhcp Differences

Hi,

Google found me your dhcp-attribute for "option 121 string" configuration.

Can you confirm that format should work on the MX, 11.2R1?

Thanks.
