  • 1.  Interface speed of tunnel interfaces

    Hi,

     

    I noticed that JUNOS assigns the tunnel interfaces for GRE or IP in IP a bandwidth of 800 Mbps. Does anyone of you know the historical background why it is exactly 800 and not any other value?

    Hello,

    AFAIR, many-many moons ago 800 Mbps was the stated throughput for Type-1 Tunnel PIC (and ES-PIC as well).

    It is still stated as 800 Mbps for ES-PIC http://www.juniper.net/techpubs/en_US/release-independent/junos/topics/reference/general/pic-m40e-es.html

    - but for T-PIC it has been later re-stated as OC48/STM16
