  • 1.  RE High CPU events but CPU is 90% idle

    Posted 04-20-2015 22:49

    Hi,

    Model: mx5-t
    JUNOS Base OS boot [12.3R8.7]

Too many SNMP events seen in MX10,

SNMPD_HEALTH_MON_THRESH_CROSS: Health Monitor: RE 0 CPU utilization crossed rising threshold 80 (value: 100), (variable: jnxOperatingCPU.9.1.0.0

But when "show chassis routing-engine" command is applied the RE CPU is 91% idle.

    show chassis routing-engine no-forwarding

    Routing Engine status:
    Temperature 34 degrees C / 93 degrees F
    CPU temperature 44 degrees C / 111 degrees F
DRAM 2048 MB (2048 MB installed)
    Memory utilization 28 percent
    CPU utilization:
    User 2 percent
    Background 0 percent
    Kernel 7 percent
    Interrupt 0 percent
    Idle 91 percent

"show system processes extensive" command output

    show system processes extensive no-forwarding

    last pid: 34811; load averages: 0.54, 0.26, 0.13 up 21+21:44:12 09:50:53
    139 processes: 3 running, 108 sleeping, 28 waiting

    Mem: 369M Active, 61M Inact, 77M Wired, 153M Cache, 112M Buf, 1327M Free
    Swap: 2837M Total, 2837M Free

PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE TIME WCPU COMMAND
    11 root 1 171 52 0K 16K RUN 488.7H  70.31% idle
    34768 root 1 113 0 35244K 25148K select 0:00  14.86% cli
    34769 root 1 115 0 40204K 4124K select 0:00    5.13% mgd

I repeatedly captured the above 2 commands but no where noticed that CPU load is high, am suspecting it as a os bug, any advice would be helpful.

    Thanks,

    Chahd

Have you had this only on your MX5 ? becasue you also mention an MX10 in your post.

You could also check wether the device in question was monitored by SNMP and check for other values besides the CPU-utilization that changed during this period of time.

To cast a wider net one could check on the neighboring devices wether any events occured on these when the issue started ...

    hope this give some hand
