Hello. I hope that this message will get some attention from the experts on this forum.

I am looking for a way to throttle or fully turn off the fan on an EX chassis via the JUNOS CLI or the Shell (whichever).

Does anyone know how this can be accomplished or at least point me in the right direction?

The systems are designed to provide adequate cooling in datacenter environments. If you turn off or otherwise interfere with the fan speed, they are very likely to overheat. I assume this is for noise? The EX2200 is designed more for acccess and oher environments requiring a quieter unit.

    Hi Keith.

    Thanks for your reply sir.

It's actually nothing to do with the noise of the fan (although I realize the most complaints eminate from that aspect).

I'm more concerned as the unit is in an enclosure which is below 0 Celsius (Often -5 to -10), the fan often times making the situation even worse by cooling the unit unecessarily.

Other than pulling out the fan and having to visit every unit on site, I'd like to push a command to one or two of the routers to disable the unit.

    Hello there,

Every EX model has own operating temperature and storage temperature

    EX4200

    Environmental Ranges
    • Operating temperature: 32° to 113° F (0° to 45° C)
    • Storage temperature: -40° to 158° F (-40° to 70° C)

    EX2200

    Environmental Ranges
    • Operating temperature: 32° to 113° F (0° to 45° C)
    • Storage temperature: -40° to 158° F (-40° to 70° C)

    http://www.juniper.net/us/en/local/pdf/datasheets/1000307-en.pdf page 4

    EX4500

    Environmental Ranges
    • Operating temperature: 32° to 113° F (0° to 45° C)
    • Storage temperature: -40° to 158° F (-40° to 70° C)

    http://www.juniper.net/us/en/local/pdf/datasheets/1000322-en.pdf page 7

    and so on

If you operate the EX switch outside these ranges you are risking your warranty.

Hello aarseniev, I'm aware of the operating temperatures of the EX3200, however even with your specs, they do not match up with what I pulled from Juniper's website.

    I found 0 to 55 C for the EX3200.

Either way, warranty aside, has this ever been done and is it possible? That is my concern.

    Thanks.

Here is the latest publicly available datasheet for EX3200

    http://www.juniper.net/us/en/local/pdf/datasheets/1000216-en.pdf

    Page 5

    Environmental Ranges
    • Operating temperature: 32° to 113° F (0° to 45° C)
    • Storage temperature: -40° to 158° F (-40° to 70° C)

If you have been promised 0 to 55C then you have been lied to.
