we have a T640 with 2 interfaces going to internet and 2 interfaces going downstream to core network. .  is enabling load-balancing per packet influence forwarding decision on all equal cost interface?.   we just want to enable load balancing per packet on the downstream interfaces.

    Hi,

"per packet" does not mean load balancing per packet. There is no such thing (anymore) as load balancing per packet on our plattforms. In the early days of our ASICs we had it but not anymore. Configuring "per packet" load balancing activates load balancing per flow. Default is load balancing per prefix.

    hi Mike,

if we do load-balance per flow, how do we do it on the downstream interface only? meaning going towards our core network.   we do not want to influence forwarding decision going to the internet since we also have multiple links to different peers and doing prepending to influence routes.

    Hi,

if you do prepending then you would nothave multiple next-hops for same prefix. Load balancing per flow kicks in only for prefixes with multiple next-hops!
