    Hi ND,

actually the NSM client uses its own JRE package and not the system one, so this problem is not related with the Java installed on your PC.

I never saw this error before, maybe memory/resource issue?

    Ciao 🙂

Did you tried it from another machine. I remember having such an issue long back but not remembering the solution. Try accessing NSM from another machine and see whether it is a JVM issue or not. What is the Java Runtime Ene.. installed on your machine ?

Hi Chuck, On other machine can open the NSM. Few month ago my machine can also open it. I run lastest java env, 6 update 15. But daniele said, nsm run on their own jre. Is it related with windows xp updates/patches?

hmm .. Windows won't have much to do with this Java error. I will suggest you to uninstall NSM and JRE and then go to "C:\Program Files\" and delete

    1) "NetScreen-Security Manager" folder.

    2) "Java" folder

Then go to "C:\Program Files\Common Files\"  and delete"Java" folder if present.

After this, reboot the machine and install NSM and try.

Nsm2008 and above create new directory on program files, network security manager. Now on my machine already installed nsm2007, and can run it well. But i will try your direction, and let you know then.

I just uninstall java, nsm2007, nsm2008, then delete their folder. Then install only nsm2008 but still not work.

    Hi,

Can you please goto your machines "Control Panel" and open "Java". At the bottom portion of the "Java Contol Panel" click on the "Settings" and see the space alocated. See the attached screenshot.

Try "Delete Files..." button in the main menu also.

    Hi,

    Still won't work...

I found temp file when i start NSM2008. That file will generate randomly.

But when i run NSM2007, its will create tmp file also but gone immediately and the file cannot be copied.

    Hi All,

Finally i found the error came from. On NSM2008 installed directory have NSM.lax file.

There has a line lax.nl.java.option.java.heap.size.max=768m (default). Then i change the value into 512m, binggo...its works.

Dont know this value related with installed RAM on our machine or not. My current installed RAM is 2.5Gb

but at my nsm.lax file i can set value upto 704m. Next i will test on NSM2009.

    Cheers..

ND thank you so much for posting this!!  NSM suddenly stopped working on my XP machine after some Windows updates, and I was going crazy trying to figure out why (uninstalling the updates didn't resolve the issue).  But setting the lax.nl.java.option.java.heap.size.max=768m fixed mine (it was set to 1280m).

    Thank you!!!!!    🙂

In a nutshell, the instructions show you how to make a System Variable for Java called _JAVA_OPTIONS with the value Xmx512M. This sets a global maximum heap memory size for Java. You can solve this by:

    Open the Control Panel
    Go to System
    Go to Advanced Systems Properties
    Then Environment Variables
    In System Variables, click Add
    New Variable Name: _JAVA_OPTIONS
    New Variable Value: -Xmx512M
    Click OK

That's it, your Java program should now be able to execute properly.
For those interested, Java -Xmx/s is the configuration parameter that control the amount of memory Java uses.

Xmx sets the maximum heap memory size
Xms sets the minimum heap memory size
