  • 1.  cron messages filling up log

    Posted 11-11-2015 08:33

    Hi All,

I was wondering if someone can help me to deciper what is happening. Whenever i do a show log messages, the majority of the logs is filled by the following repetitive messages.

Im not quite sure what they are or what the purpose of them are, can anyone help clarify?

    Nov 11 04:30:00.114 2015 switch123 /usr/sbin/cron[71347]: (root) CMD (newsyslog)
    Nov 11 04:31:00.163 2015 switch123 /usr/sbin/cron[71364]: (root) CMD (adjkerntz -a)
    Nov 11 04:35:00.190 2015 switch123 /usr/sbin/cron[71415]: (root) CMD ( /usr/libexec/atrun)
    Nov 11 04:40:00.220 2015 switch123 /usr/sbin/cron[71479]: (root) CMD ( /usr/libexec/atrun)
    Nov 11 04:45:00.250 2015 switch123 /usr/sbin/cron[71544]: (root) CMD ( /usr/libexec/atrun)

Worth noting i have read the following article:

This specifically mentions newsyslog, I get this has to run every 30 mins or so dependant on OS, but what about this usr/libexec/atrun ?

I tried navigating to locate this but could not see it when starting the shell. I was just wondering if someone can fill in the gaps and help me understand what im missing.

    Thanks
