Juniper Networks® is proud to sponsor and host Telecom Council’s event Software Defined Networking: Modernizing Data Networks

Similar to what virtualization represents in computing power, Software Defined Network (SDN) brings similar virtualization to lower layer networking. SDN has tremendous promise to reduce costs, accelerate service introduction and fuel innovation—but to reap these benefits we must first clearly understand the key principles of SDN, and plan a clearly mapped and non-disruptive transition path. By now, nearly everyone in the networking industry is familiar with the promise of SDN. But in 2013, the industry will be looking to take the next step and move SDN from promise to real world implementations.

The Telecom Council event is packed with valuable information from market trends, research, to clear execution steps, as well as the opportunity to see emerging companies and their innovation. You can find more details on the agenda here.

At a recent business dinner, a gentleman commented that in their house, everyone places their cell phones in a basket and keeps it away during dinner so that the family can have a conversation. Mobile phones are like shadows. They follow you everywhere regardless of whether it is a dining table or grocery shopping or even into a meeting room with customers. Geography is no longer a limitation for staying connected.

I’m happy to be able to have such varied experiences because it allows me to keep a more open mind and relate to both sides of the coin.

In the science fiction Star Trek, Captain Kirk and his crew use mobile devices to communicate with USS enterprise while trotting the Universe. We are a long ways from this and yet cell phones have impacted our lifestyle immensely. It has democratized the society and about three quarters of the planet’s population have access to mobile phones. While emerging countries use 2G / 3G, developed economies are benefiting from the high speed and productivity boost offered by 4G LTE. There are over 1 billion smart phone users globally and about 87% of them access internet or email through this device. This is a growing space and we are just reaching the tip of the iceberg here.
