    Hi,

Could someone help me understand the purpose between these two NLRIs in an l3vpn? What NLRI fields do these two include?

    a. inet-mvpn

    b. inet-vpn multicast

    Regards,

    Abhilash

    Hi,

These are two very distinct NLRI families used in different scenarios.

The inet-vpn multicast is a family that can be used by the customer to build a distinct topology for multicast. Those routes are installed in the VRF.inet.2 table. This table can then be used (instead of the default VRF.inet.0) by PIM for RPF checks.

The inet-mvpn signalling is used in a NG-MVPN scenario and helps the provider to transport the C-multicast streams inside its MPLS network. There are different types of NLRIs advertised with this family which basically match the different types of PIM messages : PE auto-discovery (hello), register of sources, joins to RPT or SPT...

You can find more details in the following link: http://www.juniper.net/sites/us/en/training/jnbooks/day-one/networking-technologies-series/this-week-deploying-bgp-multicast-vpns/index.page
