  • 1.  Question on the use of Layer 2 Interworking

    Hi,

The following Juniper techpubs link describes the use of stitching one L2VPN to another:

    http://www.juniper.net/techpubs/en_US/junos15.1/topics/example/layer-2-circuit-layer-2-vpn-connection-configuring.html

The scenario has PE3 configured with 'iw' interfaces that stitch the PE1-PE3 L2VPN with the PE3-PE5 L2VPN in order to facilitate connectivity between CE1 and CE5.

    My question is this:

Wouldn't it be simpler to forego Layer 2 interworking on PE3 altogether and instead configure an L2VPN pseudowire between PE1 and PE5 to facilitate CE1--CE5 connectivity? What advantages would Layer 2 interworking have here?

    Hello,

For simple p2p connections, L2 interworking does not offer any advantage except the interop situation where Your only solution is to stitch LDP PWE with BGP/Kompella PWE because some of the remote PEs does not support LDP L2VPN or BGP L2VPN.

    Thanks
