Hi Experts,

not sure if this is the right place to post such questions.

I am looking for a tool that can do followings.

1-  test links on how much they can take before the links go down. or a tool that will saturate the link bandwidth.

2- test server with protocol such sip or tch sessions on how many sessions server can take.

basically I am looking for a tool that will test tolearance level of a router and servers.

I guess you don't have access to traffic generators like Ixia or Spirent. Those would be the best ones.

Anyway, you can start with iperf(http://iperf.fr/), hping3(http://sectools.org/tool/hping/) and scapy(http://www.secdev.org/projects/scapy/)

Iperf is a tool to measure maximum TCP bandwidth, allowing the tuning of various parameters and UDP characteristics

hping3 is a packet generator and analyzer for the TCP/IP protocol.

Scapy is a packet manipulation program. It is able to forge or decode packets of a wide number of protocols, send them on the wire, capture them, match requests and replies,

thank you for your reply. If you don't mind, can you provide more info or point me to a url link where i can read the product decription in detail for Ixia and Spirent?

We are looking for a good network and servers tester. Even if we need to buy it, that's fine as well.

The Ixia hardware with IXLoad or the general load testing software IXChariot would be the products for this application.  IXLoad uses the hardware generator that can work up to full line rates as needed.  The IXChariot is a software based system you load on a computer to  test a site with simulated traffic patterns.
