has anyone faced a similar issue. i configured as per the instructions on SRX Jumpstart KB article. However dhcprelay is functioning properly.

We moved the interface from the user-defined VR to master VR and srx started leasing out ip addresses. However no such configuration change was needed to get the dhcp relay working.

Does someone know if this is a limitation ?

DHCP in custom vr is not supported on SRX .

Is this supported in any other release ? and how come dhcp relay is working ?

Hi Vikas,

DHCP Client and DHCP Server are in different routing instances scenario is supported from later codes of 10.4 I think. But the DHCP server in VR is not supported. If you enable dhcp traceoptions you will see logs like this.

Jan 20 21:45:35 received packet from 0.0.0.0 port 68 interface ge-0/0/2.0 routing instance test

Jan 20 21:45:35 packet from 0.0.0.0 discarded: not default routing instance

I guess the other routing instance where the dhcp server is residing should be defined as type "forwarding"  and not "Virtual-Router".

did i get that right ?
