  • 1.  Forward ping?

    Hi everyone,

A client made a request. They wanted to know if it was possible to forward ping traffic.

What they wanted to be able to test the availability of several hosts inside the LAN from Internet.

They currently have static natting for all hosts. So each internal host has his dedicated external IP.

So when the internal host is reachable, the external IP would respond to ping.

When the internal host is down, the external IP would stop responding to ping.

    Is something like that possible?

    Thanks for your reply!

    Hi,

Yes, I believe it is and recall testing this a while back.  If you static NAT is working properly and you have the proper proxy-arp, you can setup a policy that permits the "junos-icmp-ping" application.  You will need to specify the internal IP or Subnet in your Policy since NAT is done first.

    I hope this helps.
