    Hi

This is working process to reset the root password,

Recovering the Root Password (SRX Series)

If you forget the root password for the SRX100, SRX200, or the SRX600 device, you can use the password recovery procedure to reset the root password.

Note: You need console access to recover the root password.

    To recover the root password:

    1. Power off the device by pressing the power button on the front panel and reboot the device.
    2. Turn on the power to the management device.
    3. Power on the device by pressing the power button on the front panel. Verify that the POWER LED on the front panel turns green.

The terminal emulation screen on your management device displays the device’s boot sequence.

    4. When the autoboot is completed, press the spacebar a few times to access the bootstrap loader prompt.
    5. At the following prompt, enter boot -s to start up the system in single-user mode.

      loader>boot -s
    6. At the following prompt, enter recovery to start the root password recovery procedure.

Enter full pathname of shell or 'recovery' for root password recovery or RETURN for /bin/sh: recovery
    7. Enter configuration mode in the CLI.
    8. Set the root password. For example:

      user@host# set system root-authentication plain-text-password

For more information about configuring the root password, see the Junos OS System Basics Configuration Guide.

    9. At the following prompt, enter the new root password. For example:

      New password: juniper1
      Retype new password:
    10. At the second prompt, reenter the new root password.
    11. If you are finished configuring the network, commit the configuration.

      root@host# commit
      commit complete
    12. Exit configuration mode in the CLI.
    13. Exit operational mode in the CLI.
    14. At the prompt, enter y to reboot the device.

enter s to start shell then follow the steps below. Oncwe rebooted, you should be able to log in with the root and no password. If the following fails, you may have to use the USB to install the system again.

.   Get into "single user mode" during the boot cycle by first getting to the loader prompt.

    • To get to the loader prompt, hit the space bar when you see "Loading /boot/defaults/loader.conf", during the beginning of the boot cycle.

    • loader> boot -s

    2.   Check and mount the /var file system.

    • # df
Filesystem 512-blocks Used Avail Capacity Mounted on
    /dev/da0s1a 647748 349172 246760 59% /
    devfs 2 2 0 100% /dev
    /dev/md0 436012 436012 0 100% /packages/mnt/junos

    • # mount /dev/da0s3e /var
WARNING: /var was not properly dismounted

    • # df
Filesystem 512-blocks Used Avail Capacity Mounted on
    /dev/da0s1a 647748 349172 246760 59% /
    devfs 2 2 0 100% /dev
    /dev/md0 436012 436012 0 100% /packages/mnt/junos

    3. Check the password files in the root directory.

    • # ls -lrt /var/etcroot

    4. Create read-write access to the root partition and create the symbolic links to the password files.

    • # mount -uw /

    • # ln -s /var/etcroot/spwd.db /etc/spwd.db

    • # ln -s /var/etcroot/pwd.db /etc/pwd.db

    5. Unmount the /var partition.

    • # cd /

    • # umount /var

    • # df
Filesystem 512-blocks Used Avail Capacity Mounted on
    /dev/da0s1a 647748 349172 246760 59% /
    devfs 2 2 0 100% /dev

    • # exit

    Hi Maung,

You will need to perform a factory-reset.

Behind the SRX650, on the Routing-Engine, there is a "Reset Config" button. Please press and hold that button for at least 15 seconds. This will delete your existing active, backup and rescue configurations and load the factory default configuration.

When the SRX boots back up, you will see a login prompt. Just type "root" and hit Enter.

    Hello,

when I press the "reset config" button for 15 seconds.

    It didn't reboot.

The SRX was the same as before I pressed the button.

In this case, what should I move on for setting up new password?
