Just trying to figure out why both routes below are active on the SRX.  The static discard route has a better preference than the OSPF route.  Why isn't the static route the only active route?  Or I am reading the output wrong?

    X> show route x.x.x.x

    inet.0: 746 destinations, 758 routes (746 active, 0 holddown, 0 hidden)
    + = Active Route, - = Last Active, * = Both

    x.x.x.x/16      *[Static/5] 3d 00:23:57
                          Discard
                        [OSPF/150] 2d 20:49:36, metric 10115, tag 0
                        > to 10.254.254.6 via ge-0/0/0.0

The static is the active one. the "*" character means active.

    + = Active Route, - = Last Active, * = Both

Given the above output from the command, Wouldn't the static have a + rather than a *?  Not disputing what you are saying, I just want to make sure I have this right before I make an SRX-650 the hub of a failry large VPN topology.

I never looked to the label and don't have a clear understunding of the meaning. But, in any case, I can assure you from my own experience that "*" means active.

I think I get it now - the * means that the route is both the "active" and "last active" route - a show route detail kind of confirms this.

    Thanks!

    Hello Dear,

Consider a scenrio where you have modified the route for some entry. Now if you check "show route" for this entry it will show the two routes something like :

+ for the active route ( the new route)

    - for the last active route ( the old route)

Most of the time, this is not the case so both the routes are same. So it generally shows a '*'.

If this worked for you please flag my post as an "Accepted Solution" so others can benefit. A kudo would be cool if you think I earned it.
