  • 1.  SRX 240 instead of EX2200

    Hi all!

    We plan to deploy small VMware vSphere Essential Plus cluster with SRX 240H2 in front of it and 1Gbit iSCSI shared storage. Can we use SRX instead of separate switch (it has 16*1Gbit ports)?

    Yes. Just configure ethernet-switching on any desired ports and use an RVI for any required routing (in fact, I think this is the way SRX firewalls come configured by default these days).

    And what about speed? Does SRX240H2 provide wire speed on ports that's in same vlan?

    If in the same subnet then no traffic should cross the firewall, so you should get 1gbit throughput.

     

    I do think the EX have some better hardware switch forwarding, not sure on the exact details, but SRX should be fine for same subnet/vlan traffic I would think.
