SRX DHCP Client issue

I am running a SRX 210 version 11.1R1.10.  My ISP interface is set for DHCP and works without issue.

I upgrade to 11.1R3.5, and the R2 release before that, but both will not allow the interface to get a DHCP address anymore.  I have looked through the configuration and its the exact same thing as prior to the upgrade, no missing lines or something of that nature.  I did a traffic monitor on the interface and see the ARPs and such from other users on the ISP network so the interface is working.

If I rollback to the 11.R1 release everything works again.

Anyone else encounter this DHCP client issue with 11.1 R3 or R2 releases?

Thanks

Re: SRX DHCP Client issue

DHCP doesn't seem to work in 11.1R3. I spent 3 hours on the phone with JTAC last night trying to figure out why it doesn't work. The problem doesn't allow my AX411 to work without DHCP.

Re: SRX DHCP Client issue

[ Edited ]

JTAC was unable to get DHCP to work with 11.1R3.5. He had to take my configs so he could test in a lab. When I run the dhcp stats command I get the following:

run show system services dhcp statistics
Packets dropped:
    Total                      43

Messages received:
    BOOTREQUEST                0
    DHCPDECLINE                0
    DHCPDISCOVER               0
    DHCPINFORM                 0
    DHCPRELEASE                0
    DHCPREQUEST                0

Messages sent:
    BOOTREPLY                  0
    DHCPOFFER                  0
    DHCPACK                    0
    DHCPNAK                    0

We tried everything and could not get it to work.

Re: SRX DHCP Client issue

Interesting issues here with 11.1R3.5.  Mine is was giving out DHCP addresses to clients without issues but it wouldn't grab one for itself from my ISP.  Crazy stuff

Re: SRX DHCP Client issue

I reverted back to 11.1R1. and DHCP works fine. So something is up with R3. I still haven't heard back from JTAC on my case so maybe they are stumped as well.

Re: SRX DHCP Client issue

ha ha .. that is interesting..!!

I have tesed 11.1R3 as both server and client, it was working fine for me.

I was using the ge-0/0/0 interface.

Do you mind telling me which interface were you guys using?

If it was for AX411, I assume, it must me VLAN. and were you using in routing instance??

If you can confirm, we can try to notify JTAC, they may file a bug :smileytongue:

Re: SRX DHCP Client issue

The AX411 is going thru a trunk vlan to a EX3200 POE switch for power. It is set for routing-options 0.0.0.0 for my primary ISP. I do have a routing-instance setup for another network, but I am using firewall filters to send traffic from that network to that routing-instace if that makes sense.

But yeah I reverted to 11.1R1.10 and the AX411 picked up immediately.

Re: SRX DHCP Client issue

I am using fe-0/0/7.0 because my ISP only provides a fast ethernet connection, so no point in burning the gig port.  Shouldn't matter but guess it may.  Since it works fine with 11.1R1 should be fine on R2.3 or R3.5.

Re: SRX DHCP Client issue

I have 11.1R3 on SRX-210, with DHCP client on one interface, and DHCP server running off other interfaces (and it is serving DHCP to an AX-411 hanging off one of those interfaces off the SRX210).  Basically, DHCP is workiing for me on the same software.

One thing to check ... see if the DHCP client, and see if the client instance is obtaining an IP address.  You can check this with "show system services dhcp client".  Check to see if the DHCP client and the interface IP is showing any discrepancy.

Also, try to restart dhcp, and see if things improve after that.
