SRX - DHCP Not Working

Hi All,

we have a srx 1400 working as DHCP-Relay. The DHCP-RELAY is working fine, however, we need that this same SRX 1400 works as a DHCP-SERVER for a specific routing-instance, but this is not working.

If i create the DHCP-Server in the [edit system services dhcp] stanza, the pool is created, but don´t work.

dhcp {
traceoptions {
file dhcp.dbg;
flag all;
}
pool 10.10.10.0/24 {
address-range low 10.10.10.5 high 10.10.10.254;
default-lease-time 3600;
domain-name domain.com;
name-server {
8.8.8.8;
}
router {
10.10.10.1;
}
propagate-settings reth0.3967;
}

Note: THE ZONES HAS THE SERVICE INBOUND DHCP ALLOWED TO THE INTERFACE.

I can´t see any entry in the traceoptions.

I tried too create a dhcp pool into the own routing-instance as below, but this is not working

{primary:node1}[edit routing-instances RT-A]
ads.jvictor@RANFW7001# show
instance-type virtual-router;
system {
services {
dhcp-local-server {
##
## Warning: Incompatible with the dhcp server configured under 'system services dhcp'
## Warning: 'group' statement cannot be included along with 'forwarding-options helpers bootp' statement
## Warning: Incompatible with the dhcp server configured under 'system services dhcp'
## Warning: 'group' statement cannot be included along with 'forwarding-options helpers bootp' statement
##
group G1 {
interface reth0.3967;
}
}

Could you help me please?

Tks,

João Victor

Re: SRX - DHCP Not Working

Hello, João.

What version of code are you running? Juniper changed from DHCPD to JDHCP in the 12.x code. As the code has progressed, the old method of setting up DHCP has changed and the commands have become deprecated and hidden. Below is an article that explains how to setup JDHCP. I have this running on a SRX1500 and can confirm it functions both in inet.0 and virtual routers.

[SRX] Example - Configuring SRX with a DHCP server (this shows both global and routing instance methods)

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you need any additional assistance.

Re: SRX - DHCP Not Working

Hi,

Are you trying to commit the configuration you have mentioned in both "edit system services dhcp" and "edit routing-instances RT-A system services dhcp-local-server" ?

If yes, you are trying to use DHCP in the default routing instance inet.0 and JDHCP in the routing-instance RT-A.

Please use the following config :-

JDHCP Relay - http://www.juniper.net/documentation/en_US/junos/topics/task/configuration/security-dhcp-relay-agent...

JDHCP Server - https://www.juniper.net/documentation/en_US/junos/topics/task/configuration/security-dhcp-local-serv...

HTH !!

Sahil Sharma

Please mark my response as Solution if it Helps, Kudos are Appreciated as well.

Re: SRX - DHCP Not Working

Sahilsha,

our SRX 1400, has a configuration as dhcp-relay:

set forwarding-options helpers bootp relay-agent-option
set forwarding-options helpers bootp description SRV-DHCP
set forwarding-options helpers bootp server 10.100.100.15
set forwarding-options helpers bootp server 10.100.100.16
set forwarding-options helpers bootp interface reth0.4
set forwarding-options helpers bootp interface reth0.5
set forwarding-options helpers bootp interface reth0.6
set forwarding-options helpers bootp interface reth0.7
set forwarding-options helpers bootp interface reth0.8

When i tried configure the JDHCP, the commit doesnt complete.

{primary:node1}[edit routing-instances RT-A]
ads.jvictor@RANFW7001# show
instance-type virtual-router;
system {
services {
dhcp-local-server {
##
## Warning: Incompatible with the dhcp server configured under 'system services dhcp'
## Warning: 'group' statement cannot be included along with 'forwarding-options helpers bootp' statement
## Warning: Incompatible with the dhcp server configured under 'system services dhcp'
## Warning: 'group' statement cannot be included along with 'forwarding-options helpers bootp' statement
##
group G1 {
interface reth0.3967;
}
}

The version being used is: 12.1X47-D20.7

Tks,
