SRX as a universal CE Device: VLAN aggregation, WebAuth Security zones

We need a layer 3 device at our plant locations that will terminate 4 VLANS.  One of the VLANs requires WebAuth access (automation).  We want to run OSPF onsite to handle distributing routes to BGP on the WAN router at the site.  We may also want it to participate in IGMP/PIM-S handoff.

The EX2200 has the right size, but can't do OSPF or PIM (for now).  The SRX 210 is limited in its ability to switch/route, and I was warned by my integrator that it couldn't handle the VLAN routing.   Bigger SRX switches are very expensive.  1GB ports are an addon.

BTW:  The EX3200 is WAY to big to install on a shelf or a small wall cab at a plant office location.

Starting from Junos 10.2R2, Branch SRX platforms support L3 routing features on VLAN interface including OSPF, IGMP and PIM-SM.

On VLAN interfaces, SRX210 can also be deployed as Virtual routers. This support has been added starting 10.4 onwards.
