    Hi,

We currently use several SRX240 routers at work and I am at a stage where I need a "lab" environment to test designs before release. I'm looking at the SRX100 as a substitute for the 240.

Are there any documents available which talk about the differences between the two? I'm aware they're only 100mbps ports etc., but I'm just trying the concepts so don't need speed. What I do need are routing instances, ospf(2/3), ipv6, GRE tunnels etc.

Are there any limitations applied to these on the smaller units?

    Thanks

    Andrew.

There are just a few limitiation I'm awre of. Troughput of course, but that's no problem for a lab as you allready said. From top of head: you can't make a swfab link in the srx100. Clustering is supported on srx100, but because of slower cpu you might run into synchronisation problems.

It's absolutly worth to place 1 srx100 in your lab!

I think the only deal breaker would be if you needed specific expansion interfaces.  Those slots are available on the 240 but not the 100.

The other potential issue is the number of interfaces.  If you have a config to test that uses more than the 8 available on the SRX100.

And also note that clusters are not supported on the SRX110 for some reason.  So stick with the SRX100.

Here is the guide. With the exception of some encapsulations, they will work for your lab. If you plan on testing the UTM, get the High Memory models.

Has anyone tried to manage wireless AP's using an SRX100 in your lab? I was wondering if that would tax the boxes too much?

We don't really have a lab yet, we're building it up.

I currently don't have a business need for the Juniper APs so haven't been able to get my hands on one to try. If I do, I'll let you know.
