  • 1.  'auto-snapshot is not configured' log message?

    Posted 07-01-2014 01:13

I notice that we receive the message below quite a lot in our /var/log/processes log file and don't understand why it is there.  I cannot see any auto-snapshot configured in our SRX5800 Junos 12.1x44 system.

Any ideas what is causing this and how to address this issue?

    Thank you

    Hi elboertjie,

This auto-snapshot Command is introduced in Junos OS Release 12.1X45-D10 for SRX Series devices:

    http://www.juniper.net/techpubs/en_US/junos13.3/topics/reference/command-summary/show-system-auto-snapshot.html

Following command to view the auto-snapshot status:

    show system auto-snapshot

    user> show system auto-snapshot
    Auto-snapshot Configuration: EnabledAuto-snapshot State: Disabled

    Thanks & Regards,

    rparthi

Thanks for the response, but that is the reason why I raised this question:  there is NOTHING configured for auto-snapshot, neither enabled nor disabled.

When I run the show command I get:

    >show system auto-snapshot

error: command is not valid on the srx5800

So, why do we get this error message when it is not configured and also not even available on the SRX 5800?

    Any ideas?

    #snapshot

    Hi ,

Please raise a JTAC case to address this issue as this command is not valid for SRX5800 on 12.1X44 code.

    Thanks & Regards,

    An update to all:

The response from Juniper about this issue is that auto-snapshot is not available for the SRX, but because it is part of the Junos OS for EX devices it erroniously produce this message on an SRX.  We are now filtering this message in our syslog configuration.

Herewith the response that we received from Juniper:

'''auto-snapshot'' is introduced to JUNOS for EX series (http://www.juniper.net/techpubs/en_US/junos13.3/topics/reference/configuration-statement/auto-snapshot-edit-system.html). MGD is the deamon handles it. MGD is common to all platforms.
When MGD is notified about config change, what MGD does first is to check if ''auto-snapshot'' appears in the config, if not, MGD logs this message (''auto-snapshot is not configured''). As SRX does not support this option, so you can always see ''auto-snapshot is not configured''.

So it's just a check which fails to see the auto-snapshot config and logs this message. For sure, it is not harmful in any way.'
