  • 1.  gr-0/0/0 or gre interface for GRE tunnel on SRX?

Hi All, For GRE tunnel, should I configure interface gr-0/0/0 or configure interface gre on SRX5800 JUNOS12.1? To use GRE tunnel, do I have to order special SPC card or any license? Currently on my SRX5800, I only have one SPC for control and it active/standby mode used now. I am having doubt because I found below and think that since only one SPC in my case and maybe I can't use gr-0/0/0 but gre interface instead. But seems interface gre is not a configurable interface. "In JUNOS platform, there are two different types of GRE tunnel: hardware based or software based. Hardware based GRE depends on the dedicated service PIC (gr interface), and software based GRE depends on general engine." "[edit logical-routers r1] root# show interfaces gre.1 tunnel { source 12.0.1.1; destination 23.0.1.3; } family inet { address 20.0.1.1/30; }" Thanks! BR/ Claire

    Hello,

You will need to use gr-x/y/z interface to configure GRE tunnels. 'gre' is an internally generated interface to handle gre traffic & is not configurable. Its use is elsewhere.

    http://www.juniper.net/techpubs/en_US/junos15.1x49/topics/reference/general/interface-security-service.html

On SRX devices, Service Processing is handled by SPCs while on M & T devices it requires services PICs therefore on SRX the SPC should be able to allow you to configure gr interfaces without a need to buy Services PICs.
