We have the latest code 7.2r4 on test VPN. On trace I noticed that Host Checker not even start. Do not see any software installed on PC.
Is WIndows 8 supported? If not do you know when

As per the supported platform guide for 7.2r4 Windows 8 is not yet supported.

Remember that the supported platform guide is just that - a list of what Juniper will work with officially and nothing more. So if it works "great" if it doesn't - "don't call us"
I have no clue when Windows 8 will be supported. As it does not ship until the end of the month I would guess that it will probably be in the next release - but that is just an informed opinion.

My understanding is that Windows 8 is 'officially' supported as of 7.3R1.
Our issue is that we're still running quite a few SA6000s that only support up to IVE 7.1. Does anyone know if there is a workaround to getting Host Checker to work on Windows 8 with IVE OS 7.1? Our rollout of MAGs is still 3-6 months away so this will likely become a bit of an issue in the interim...

We are still running SA6000s so have limited software upgrade capabilities but I have a Windows 8 configuration that works with Host Check and Network Connect.
7.1R5 (build 19757)
Using registry check for product name Windows 8. Using process check that malware checker is running. I assume other versions of Windows 8 will work as long as product name matches host check.
Cannot get MSIE10 on Windows 8 to even start host check.

So far it looks like Windows 8 support by Juniper is equal to a D-
No official statement of support that I have seen. 7.3 might support it but Juniper can't seem to release the "what's new" document for the software. Also who wants to go to a .1 rev of software just to support a new clients OS. Cmon Juniper 7.2 is barely out of the early Rev stages and now we should start with 7.3

I have 7.3R1 installed in my lab and I was able to get Host Checker working. I should add that according to the release notes Juniper only supports one third pardty AV product when running Windows 8, which is Defender. Also, the release notes state that you must be running ESAP 2.2.4 (which I am).
The release notes also state that real time file scanning is not detectable in Win8 until RTFS has been disabled and re-enabled in Defender. I can confirm that this is true. When I first logged in with Win8 / Defender, I was failing the AV policy. This didn't change until I manually disabled the RTFS feature in Defender and re-enabled it.
In my case, the AV policy is enforced at the role level. So I was able to perform the disable / re-enable while still logged into the VPN. I let the session sit idle long enough for the security policies to be re-evaluated at which point the roles that were restricted by the AV policy became available. I also confirmed in the Active Users monitor that the PC was fully-compliant.
7.3R1 Release Notes info on HC and pre-defined AV policies:
"Hostchecker support of Predefined policies on Windows 8 endpoints is limited to Windows Defender only with ESAP 2.2.4. Windows Defender needs to be manually Turned off/on once on Windows 8 machines to enable the 'Check RTP status' Hostchecker policy (792564, 802832, 802855, 813340, 815559)"
Oddly enough, I only had to disable and re-enable Defender once. Even after a reboot, Defender was properly detected.

I've also been able to get host checker working between Windows 8 and IVE 7.2R3, but only with FireFox.
Here is the process that I followed.
Obviously this isn't an officially supported scenario, but I think the information is useful.
