6.1.0-IDP Upgrade

We purchased the IDP blades for our ISG 1000 and 2000 firewalls.  We are still running 5.3 and I want to upgrade to 6.1-IDP.

 

Does anyone know if I can upgrade to the 6.1-IDP software before installing the IDP blades?  This would allow me to verify the software upgrade before doing the hardware upgrade.  The documentation doesn't state either way.

I would have thought that you could do this, but I havent tried. It is the same software with added support for IDP, so it should run if the IDP blades aren't in there. What would happen if you needed to RMA a blade, would that mean that you couldnt use the firewall till you got it back. Hopefully not......so i would have thought you should be able to upgrade without them in.

 

Maybe some one could clarify from Juniper, might be worth ringing JTAC and asking them quickly.
