    Hi Team

We have configured the snmp server on our Juniper SSG devices. We are facing issue with BGP flap notifiations, means when BGP states changes from established to idle, Juniper ssg is treating BGP flap as informational alarms and Information messages can not be sent to SNMP server.

We got an update from JTAC that Informational messages from event log cannot be sent to SNMP server. This is according to the design.

Is there any workaround, so that we can get a notification for BGP flap? Like email notifiaction.

You could configure a syslog server, then have the syslog server send the messages.  The firewall can only email emergency, alert, critical and notification messages.

    Thanks

We are performing some tests on SNMP server using SNMP walk, when SNMP server polls (send request) to Juniper device, whether it is receiving any BGP message state in reply (like  1 = IDLE 2 = CONNECT 3 = ACTIVE 4 = OPENSENT 5 = OPENCONFIRM 6 = ESTABLISHED).

If YES,  we can create custom SNMP poller in monitoring tool to create incidents for BGP state change, if integer valus is between 1 to 5.

I am facing one more issue regarding BGP flapping.

Yesterday, there was a BGP flap and we didn't see any BGP state change message in Event logs. There was a  circuit issue and it got resolved. On juniper device output, it shows neighborship is up from last 10 hours.

Is there a way to verify BGP state messages at the time of issue?
