  • 1.  Gigabit ports on ssg-140?

Right now I have the DMZ zone on a 100mbit port and the Untrust (uplink) zone on a 100mbit port.  If I later upgrade my bandwidth with our network provider to support Gigabit  speeds is it just as simple as moving the configuration settings of the two 100mbit ports over to the two Gigabit ports?   In other words, are there any special considerations when using the gigabit ports or do they act just the same as the 100mbit ports (only faster)?

    Hi Spock,

Yes, you are correct. You just have to move the configuration settings to Gigabit ports.

In addition to the earlier update, ssg 140 has only 2 fixed 10/100/1000 port.

    Fixed I/O
    8x10/100,

    2x10/100/1000

Just to be clear... are you saying there is a problem with what I'm proposing?

I'm not sure why there being only 2 fixed 10/100/1000 ports creates a problem.  Since neither of them are currently in use and I'm currently only using 2 ports, it seems like my plan to switch from using the fixed 10/100 ports to the 10/100/1000 ports would upgrade my throughput to gigabit speeds, right?

    Hi,

I think what Venkat is trying to say is that if you have more than 2 100M ports currently in production, you can't migrate all of them to Gig, because 140 has only 2 gig ports.

Given that you are aware of this fact and you need only 2 Gig ports, there should be no problem.

Also the SSG 140 cannot do full 1000mbit/sec speed if you are routing over the interfaces.

Upgrading from 100mbit you will probably see a 2-3x improvement (200-300mbit). It depends on the type of traffic.
