  • 1.  Operator DNS overwrites dns of VPN

    Posted 04-23-2009 09:13

    Hi,

I connet the VPN and I see in the log that i get IP and DNS, but i don't ping the remote lan by name. If I do a nslookup e get the DNS of the operator.

I'm connecting from a GSM HSDPA modem.

    Any ideas ? ? ?

    Regards,

Did you set up your VPN to push down the Internal DNS to your connection as well?

It should looks something like this:

    set xauth default dns1 X.X.X.X

You should be able to set it  in the xauth configuration:

You will need to use that in order to resolve the names (don't forget to set the TCP/IP properties on your LAN connection to run Netbios over TCP/IP.)

    The xauth config is OK.

I received the DNS server IP (I can see it in the log viewer).

I'm using a USB GSM MODEM, so I don't have any Lan Connection that I can configure.

Did you check the DNS you are using? If you are getting the DSL DNS, then you will still have the problem.

You need to be pointing to your internal network DNS (the remote end where you are vpning to) in order for the internal host names to be resolved.

If you are just going to use the DNS to lookup the local names, then you do not need to configure the netbios, if not, by default the netbios is sent with broadcast mac address. In that case you will not be able to map network drives etc as the netbios packets will not reach the end host anyway.

I have found the problem, I need to have the "Virtual Adapter" as "required".

    Now it works fine.
