  • 1.  PPPoE pass through(bridging) on SSG5

    Posted 03-07-2014 15:41

    Hi,

    I have a SSG5 and would like to set up it as PPPoE bridge.

    My network is as follow.

    Internet === DSL modem === SSG5 === switch === PCs.

    SSG5 has already internet connection via PPPoE session on UNTRUST interface.

    One of PCs need to get another PPPoE session over SSG5 to get global IP address. (My ISP provide 2 sessions on a circuit.)

    I suppose it would be achieved if SSG can act PPPoE bridge.

    Is it possible to get SSG act PPPoE bridging?

    Hello

    As I remember , any switch can do the job , for your scenario , I don't think the SSG can do both terminate one PPPoE and transport the other . you can connect your modem directely to the switch , and from the switch you can have both PC and SSG connected . by this way , u will have both SSG and PC terminate 2 existing PPPoE session in your cirtcuit.

    Regards

    Hi Red1,

    Yes, common switches can handle multi PPPoE sessions during a modem. But I wanted to avoid putting switch at UNTRUST zone in front of SSG or any firewalls since good stability is needed on that switch.

    Any way, your advice is very helpful. I will go with new switch or other firewall product which can bridge PPPoE.

    Thank you for your reply!

    This is just information, I found a article saying Cisco router can both terminate and passthru PPPoE.

    I dislike to buy any other device in this situation. However for someone looking for same solution, this could be worth referred.
