    Hi All,

Is there a way to restore a screenOS device to factory device without physical access? I have console access and want to start clean with the device (it's just been moved from an site to a new one). I forgot to reste the config with the button on the device when I was reracking it. Sure, I can get access to the machine next week sometime but I'd love to do it remotely now. Is there a 'unset all' or something similar?

    Cheers

Yes - you can use the unset all command to accomplish this. The syntax is:

    unset all

Then at the prompt Erase all system config...... ?

    Answer "y"

Then do a reset, answer "N" to save config and "y" to reboot.

    You will be styling!

    I'd actually already tried that:

     unset all
                        ^-----unknown keyword all

I'm running the newest version of screenOS for the SSG140 (6.3.0r6.0)

    Just my 2 cents...

If you get the error "unknown keyword" after the "unset all" command in CLI.

i had the problem that i had console rights, but not root level access.. you can go to Admin Menu and see for the root user you need root access..

With my console user i had only "read-write" rights and these are not sufficent to get the SSG back to factory settings.

    Regards,

    Frank

    Hi Stewart,

if you have console access you can login with the serial number of the unit as the username and the password.

You will get a prompt that the configuration will be cleared and the password is going to be reset to the default ("netscreen").

Thanks for that Steve, I just tried as you suggested and it removed the config. I've reconfigured the MGT interface and now have IP connectivity back. Thanks for that, wish this was a little more well documented. My google fu didn't result in much! One of the tips of the trade I suppose (I'm a checkpoint boy, Juniper is new!)
