  • 1.  SSG5 max number of clients ?

    Posted 03-25-2008 13:22

    Is there a limit on what number of clients a SSG5 can handle? or a max number that would be sane to let it handle?

    The reason I am asking is that I consider if I would use it for handling a small lan party (as dhcp/gateway), or if I would configure a Linux box for the job instead?

    Thanks in advance.

    The maximum number of users is unlimited.

    You need to take the following figures in your head to check if a SSG5 will do the job:

    * Maximum security policies: 200

    * New Sessions/second: 2800

    * Maximum concurrent sessions: 8000 (SSG 5 Base) / 16000 (SSG 5 Extended)

    Normally the SSG 5 will be enough for your LAN party if you want to use it for dhcp/gateway + firewall.

    Also keep in mind that the base model of SSG5 allows only 10 Devices, so if your LAN party has more than 10 clients you will have issues.

    Mali, you're thinking of the NetScreen 5GT. The SSG5 is not limited by number of users.

    Thanks for both of your input.

    Just to be sure, by 10 devices that mean if someone bring computer no. 11 thay won't be able to connect ?

    Mali,

    Are you sure about those 10 clients?

    The datasheet clearly states that the numbers of users supported is "Unrestricted". So you will only be blocked by the maximum number of sessions, etc. but not by the number of people connecting.
