  • 1.  Setting up SSG-20-SH Need Help!

    Posted 02-02-2010 07:39

    Hi All,

My company is moving from an old Xincom dual wan with Utangle firewall to a full blown appliance that provides routing and security at the same time: After some research the SSG 20 SH meets our budget and company size.

However, the instruction guide doesn't explain to me how it works in details - I tried connecting to the management but no luck and I don't have a VGA cable only an ethernet cable that came with it.

Any advice or suggestions on online courses and/or how to connect to the management and what IP is the default. The guide did have an IP, but I couldnt get connected.

    Thanks in Advance.

You should have gotten a "getting started" guide with the box. Following is a link to this guide:

    http://www.juniper.net/techpubs/hardware/ssg_devices.html#ssg20

Plug a PC into ports 0/2 - 0/4 and use DHCP. Then connect to 192.168.1.1.

Also this post should really go in the "firewall" section of the Forums.

    Best of luck!

thanks for the quick response - I'll give that a try.

Please Mods, move this to the firewall section.

for some odd reason eth0/1 didnt connect to 192.168.1.1 , but 0/4 did.

Yes - that is correct behavior - the DHCP service is not enabled on 0/1 - if you look at my post  I noted that it starts at 0/2. If my memory is correct the e0/1 port is defined as a DMZ port initially. So DHCP only works on the intital trust ports.

Glad this helped get you up and running. Oh yeah - welcome to the Juniper Forums!
